klipschutz

klipschutz (aka Kurt Lipschutz) was born in 1956 in Indio, California, and lives in San Francisco. His collections are Twilight of the Male Ego (Tsunami Inc., Walla Walla, 2002), The Good Neighbor Policy (End of the Century Books, San Francisco, 1989) and The Erection of Scaffolding for the Re-Painting of Heaven by the Lowest Bidder (privately printed, 1985).

"Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Burrito" was issued as a letterpress broadside in 1990, by Rich Spelker, and a recording of the poem set to music by Bone Cootes appears on a CD accompanying The Coe Review #31 (2001). The broadside has been displayed continuously at City Lights in North Beach for over 15 years. Cyborg Press issued Some Ghazals as a pamphlet, which was later incorporated into Twilight of the Male Ego.

His poems have been in numerous magazines including FUCK! and Poetry (of Chicago), as well as journals based in Canada, Scotland, Ireland and London. His work can also be found in several national anthologies. Over 40 songs he co-wrote with Chuck Prophet and Stephanie Finch have been recorded and released both by Prophet as a solo act and the group Go Go Market. The legendary Jim Dickinson covered one of the songs, "Hungry Town" on his CD Free Beer Tomorrow.

He founded Luddite Kingdom Press, specifically to release All Roads...But This One (2006), a handbound collector's limited edition issued in association with The Temple Inc. and verdant press, and featuring the poetry of Jon Cone, Claudia Grinnell, klipschutz and Albert Sgambati.

klipschutz gave the inaugural reading at The Temple Bookstore in 2002 and has appeared at several Walla Walla Poetry Parties. His work is available on the CD and DVD editions of the WWPP 2003, and 2005.
