Litmus was the name given to an 8.5 by 11 mimeo magazine edited and published by Charles Potts, in Seattle, Washington in 1967 where it had 6 regular issues and a #7 that was a limited edition of the poem, "The Litmus Papers." By 1968 Potts and Litmus had relocated to Berkeley, California, and issues #8 and #9 were published there in photo offset format 5.5 by 8.5. In 1971 Potts picked up the negatives that had been produced for Litmus #10 from Ben L. Hiatt in Sacramento and Potts and John (the Poet) Thomson printed them in a tabloid edition of 5,000 copies in Salt Lake City. Utah, and went on a six week coast to coast tour distributing them and playing music as the Buddhist marching band, Hot Air. Two more issues, #11 and #12 were produced tabloid style in Salt Lake for a total of twelve issues.
